DC Water Headquarters

Located along the banks of the Anacostia River in Washington, DC, the new state-of-the-art headquarters for the District of Columbia’s water and sewer management boldly redefines typical architecture of a civic building. DC Water’s serpentine footprint evokes the fluidity of water creating a dramatic facade that seems to flow around the landscape. Erie’s unitized ENVIRO|FACADESĀ® curtain wall system achieves this unique form using a series of planar modules installed at varying degrees to simulate a curvilinear path. As each floor ebbs and flows, the facade blends from offset independent strips of framing to a unified wall of glass and metal panels. As a means to maximize the facade’s performance and add an engaging aesthetic quality, projected wind screen panels were integrated into the curtain wall on the building’s southeastern and southwestern faces. The ability to execute such a complex facade was made possible by Erie’s close Design Assist support with the project design team.
